NEPA, the New England Prisoners Association, was a multiracial coalition of prisoners, ex-prisoners, and supporters on the outside who came together to mobilize for prison reform. They advocated for the abolition of prisons, wages for prison labor, uniform penal codes, and prisoner unions. They also created NEPA News, which was distributed throughout the Northeast. Between 1973 and 1975 the newspaper covered the situation of women prisoners, reported on prisoner conferences and kept abreast of such notorious cases as the Attica Brothers.
