US Vietnam Friendship Association Collection

This collection contains material collected by the US Vietnam Friendship Association (USVFA), which was based in San Francisco and was organized in response to the invasion of Vietnam by China on Feb. 17, 1979. The organization also worked on issues related to the impacts of the Vietnam War (i.e., Agent Orange; economic, medical and scientific support for Vietnam). While the US war in Vietnam officially ended in 1975, the ramifications continued for many decades. The USVFA had the goals of normalizing relations with Vietnam, lifting the trade embargo, honoring the 1973 Paris Peace Accords (in which the US promised 3.25 billion dollars to help Vietnam recover from the war) and ending US military aid to China. The USVFA was also concerned with Cambodia/Kampuchea,especially US support for the Pol Pot regime and their representation at the UN. This collection also includes material related to the struggle in Chile.
