Shades of Power

Shades of Power was the newsletter for the Institute for MultiRacial Justice, co-founded the Mission District by Chicana activist Elizabeth "Betita" Martinez in 1997. The institute aimed to "serve as a resource center that will strengthen the struggle against White Supremacy by combating the tactics of divide-and-control and advancing solidarity among people of color." Shades of Power was published four times a year and offered "news of Institute activities, reports on current efforts to resolve conflicts and build alliances between communities of color, as well as analysis of the issues at stake and historical examples of linkage between different communities of color."
