Friends of Stephen Bingham Defense Committee

Stephen Bingham was a young lawyer who met with George Jackson on August 21, 1971, shortly before George was murdered by San Quentin prison guards. Following George's murder, Stephen was accused of smuggling a gun to George and went underground for 13 years. He returned to the Bay Area in 1984 determined to establish his innocence and in the process, help answer the question of who killed George Jackson. The Friends of Stephen Bingham Defense Committee came together to help prove the allegations against him were false and support him throughout his trial. This collection contains comprehensive Bay Area news coverage of Stephen's trial and organizing materials related to his defense. Donated by Betsy Calloway.
