Stop the Death Penalty - Legal Lynching U.S.A.
CollectionNew Afrikan Prisoners PublishersAfrican National Prison Organization Solidarity Committee This pamphlet provides the historical background of the rise of the death penalty and the ensuing ongoing struggle against American colonialism. The death penalty upholds colonial domination and is used to terrorize black prisoners. Recent changes to the law, disguised as a law and order campaign to reduce crime in the streets, solely supports these "legal lynchings". The pamphlet explains how mass media is used to condition North Americans to their government's genocidal tactics. It includes the stories of Imani (Johnny) Harris who faces the death penalty, the televised police assault on the MOVE house, and the case of Dessie Woods who successfully defended herself against being raped by a white man and is now serving 22 years. The African National Prison Organization Solidarity Committee provides their final statement of creating a national campaign against the death penalty in the hopes of defeating it.
